Be Prepared for a Disaster

Flooded Road Natural disasters can strike at any time. If you get a warning, make use of that precious time and prepare!

It’s essential to have a plan when a natural disaster looms! If you are ordered to evacuate, do so. If not, use your time wisely, and be prepared:

  1. Communicate where you are and where you will be to someone outside the affected area.
  2. Stay tuned to your local television or radio station or community alert system for emergency information.
  3. Check your emergency survival kit, which should be stocked with essential items.
  4. Collect emergency building materials, such as plywood, sandbags and waterproof tarps.
  5. Fuel up your vehicles and equipment. If you have an emergency generator, store fresh fuel in an approved container in a safe location.
  6. Have car chargers for your cell phone, smart phone and other portable devices and fully charge them before a storm.
  7. Secure all outdoor furniture and other objects or move them inside. 
  8. Know how to shut off the gas, electricity and water in your home or place of business. If you need to evacuate, turn off utilities before leaving.
